SCRAP BAGS!!!!!

Monday, November 29th, 2010

Do you guys know what this little brown bag is….with the teasing little window?

This is a scrap bag – packed by Moda!

Did you ever wonder how Moda cuts all their precuts so precisely?

They aren’t worried about “wasting” fabric when they “true up” their yardage…so they cut the ends.  Now – it just happens that some of the stickers have dried a bit and lifted, so let’s peek in…….

Now the best part?  I don’t know about you, but I have been collecting selvedge bits and pieces, but it is taking forever to get a good “stash” of those….this has them all!  And as you can see, there is a fair bit of material in here, and the “scraps” are a pretty useable size…..the lines are varied, but this is so exciting.  It is like those mystery grab bags when we were kids…..

Amy Butler is in the store!

New Soul Blossoms has arrived – I can’t wait to cut into it!

There are more prints in the store, check it out!

Inspiration has struck…..

Remember the Maison stacked coin quilt?

I have had an inspiration.  The Maison panels, which were on backorder, have arrived.

I am going to make corner blocks and join them with sashing.

The corner blocks might be the old maison stars, but the maison panels have just arrived……I can’t decide as yet….. and the pictures don’t do the panels justice…..

Oh – the winner – Emily – send me an email with what interests you.

There will be another ocntest, keep an eye on this space!

To everyone south of our border – Happy Thanksgiving!

So – here are the corner options – thoughts?

So – I am unstuck and headed home……

Christmas at Macy’s (and skaters in Union Square – Weird) brings a cupcake tree…..

These were very cute, and handmade (who knows where) with stuffed felt…..great theme.

I am too new to the blogging thing, I only took one picture – sorry, had to maximize my       one shopping hour available……I got a few goodies, as we don’t have Macy’s at home.

Frequently when I travel I find and visit quilt shops or suppliers if I can find an hour or       so, but here I didn’t do the research, and was a day late, so next time I will find some SF     fabric action…….

Drizzly/rainy and cool here, though I did feel the gloves, toques and coats I saw tonight     to be a bit of overkill…….to each their own!

Any exciting projects out there?  A quilt tree theme anyone?

Because I am STUCK in Vegas……a sale!

Using free wireless at the airport – Yippee! – that is as exciting as this trip has been.  I am seriously BORED.  Waiting for our plan as we diverted here late last night, low on fuel, destination closed due to planes getting hit by lightning…..very fun.  Too far away to drive, missing the conference I came for…..so a SALE.

No shopping here, can’t leave airport.  So you guys shop.  10% off the entire store, use vegas at checkout.

Until I get home, theoretically Tuesday night.

And check out the contest in the last post.

Cheers!

New Ideas and …..

Friday, November 19th, 2010

So guys – have you heard about fat eighths?  I was browsing through the Quilt Market catalogue Moda sent me, and I was noticing how many lines they are doing pre-cut fat eighths for – alot!

I have a UFO which is a fat eighth project, it took two groups of fat eighths, so I think 2 yards of fabric in total, and it was a dead simple exercise in rotary cutting and straight seam piecing.  Of course it is still a flimsy……though I did determine the backing, but I don’t love the backing, and I was going to try a new sandwich/binding technique but wasn’t feeling it so didn’t finish it…..I need to find a new backing.  I bulked out the size with the sashing added in, I went for matching but am going to likely rip it out and go for contrast – and white looks HORRIBLE.  This quilt was meant to be pink and green as a tribute/memorial to a lovely irish lady who lost her battle with breast cancer, and while the flimsy is very romantic and subdued I wanted the back to be the same theme but much more alive and vibrant – I achieved what I set out to do, but still don’t love it, so I think I need to piece that backing/break it up somehow.

(ignore the fact that the backing is a bit bigger than the flimsy and shows through in this picture…..thanks!)

So – I have revealed another UFO – that brings the count you know about to 2!

Any comments on my challenges with this one?

Also – I am thinking of putting together some fat eighth kits – do you think this is a good idea?

Lastly – a contest.

Comment on this blog, or the facebook equivalent – by midnight Leafnation HQ time (Toronto) and a winner will be chosen at random on Friday Nov. 26th and announced here.  Link www.logcabinyardage.com to your blog and get a 2nd entry to the random draw.  LAstly – sign up for our newsletter to get a 3rd entry, or do any combination of this stuff, up to a total of 3 entries, before midnight Thursday the 25th.

The winner will receive, oddly enough from a fabric shop – 4 fat quarters (1 yard total) – of a material of your choice.  I will figure that out with the winner by email.

Have a good weekend!

Princesses and Fairies are here….

Here is half of what came last night……

Hmmmm – an interesting evening….

My project page isn’t doing what I want!

I can’t post under it, so I will have to figure that one out.   I am going to put a picture of my coin quilt in here anyhow!

Got some stock tonight, two big packages that I haven’t unloaded yet.

What to know why I haven’t even cracked them open to let the little bolts of loveliness trapped inside spill out?

Here they are, I expect they are full of princess and meadowsweet2, but I need to check.  Come back later and I will let you know.

So why do the lovelies languish?  I am waging a war against fruit flies.

We were away on holidays, and then gone most of the time since we have       been “back”, and between farm produce that should have been chucked      before we left, and bananas that added to the gene pool, today the lingering  and irritating population literally exploded in a gross number I discovered when I got home.  So I opened what I figured was a not great bottle of red wine (to find it was horrible with a bone dry cork still half in the bottle) to lure the little bastards to a few strategically placed glass of wine, and I am vacuuming them up when they collect.  If you want to feel powerful try vacuuming up little clouds of flies and smoting them…..I digress.

The new stuff will go to the store.  Meantime, here is the “coin” quilt flimsy made with some Bella solid natural (I think) and a honeybun of Rouenierres by French General…. I think it still needs some more sashing then a border…..I might use either the Bella tomato solid, or one of the Maison prints, in which case maybe a turkey red…

So, some detail in all it’s wrinkly glory……

New stock ordered…..Sherbet Pips by Aneela Hoey

Wednesday, November 17th, 2010

So – post Quilt Market (which I would love to see, but as the fall one is always around Halloween that isn’t happening for a while, my monsters are just getting old enough to make Halloween a ton of fun!) I had my friendly fabric sales rep come and visit…..and she brought LOTS of fabric headers…..really she isn’t nice, that is cruel and unusual punishment as I can’t purchase it all…..no, really…..

So what is coming??????

As I find the pictures I will post them here….

Sherbet Pips by Aneela Hoey for Moda…….amongst other very cool details note the neat-o square dots….also a colour departure for me, and the store, this is a very “cool” colour line…..quite interested to see this one in person – layer cakes and charm square packs will be instock, should come soon-ish.

Off to find more pictures to tell you what is coming…..I am quite excited to see some of it!

The King is being reprinted…..

Monday, November 15th, 2010

So – the print for the King which was selected (after much careful consideration in a mutually beneficial manner between my sister and myself) has proven to helpfully be very difficult to acquire/possibly discontinued/generally problematic, the Canadian wholesaler who just returned from visiting the manufacturing mill assures me there is no issue and the line is being reprinted……also is sending me a catalogue of the actually available for real, with little delay, from the manufacturer.  So I will choose another King print and get it into the store, though in theory the 69 black and red print may actually show up.

We shall see………so –

Seems that I have participated in a poll running on Facebook…..I should perhaps inform potential pollsters that the question refers to which kind of apron you prefer – with or without a bib……..and if you need an apron go see BotBot DeeVine…..answer her poll…..she is on Facebook…..
